Weekly Update – 4/7/17

Hello, Internet!

I feel like the last week has gone fairly well. I’m behind on the Camp NaNo wordcount (At the end of my writing time yesterday I was sitting at 7,477 out of the 10,000 target), but the distance is still within catch-up range.

It feels really good to be back in the seat and writing again. I didn’t know how much I missed it.

I’ve not been doing the “writer” thing for long – just since November – but it’s grown on me a lot more than I had ever anticipated. The simple truth is that writing is fun; it’s just telling yourself a story, and I’ve always really liked stories. Doesn’t hurt that I enjoy the research end of things, too.

But man, editing. I do not like editing.

Well, it’s less editing, and more the rewriting that I truly despise. There’s still a sense of accomplishment to be had when editing, seeing the page covered in black ink. One of these days I’ll put up a picture with my update, or post one over on Twitter or Facebook. One of these days, I promise. I tend to just drown my writing in changes and comments.

Rewriting scenes already written, or doing a portion of the outline a different way, though? That sucks. It just isn’t any fun. I was trying for a while with The Rule of Iron, and those rewrites just weren’t going anywhere. I think that’s part of why I’m enjoying the writing of Perseus so much. It’s new material (the foundation of which I’m quite familiar with), and exciting to toy with.

Anyway, I should go keep writing and trying to catch back up to my wordcount target.
