Weekly Update – 6/14/17

Hello, Internet!

Well, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’ve been stuck in a bit of a rut, lately, with little-to-nothing to think or say. Unsure why, but it is what it is.

Of course, I’m glad to say that I’m out of that annoying place. Haven’t gotten any work to continue on Rule, but in an effort to seek Inspiration (capital on purpose), I went digging through my notes on Jiharel. While perusing, I found a list of myths or folk tales/fairy tales that I had wanted to write in order to create a backdrop setting.

Lately, I’ve been back to reading some Tolkien; mostly The Book of Lost Tales from The History of Middle-Earth, but I also took a break to read the new book on Beren and Luthien (which is easily one of my favorite stories of all time). The Lost Tales reads very much like what it is – a collection of stories loosely bound – and so I think that is what sufficed as my Inspiration.

So, I started dabbling on one of the tales of my own work, sans any idea beyond the list of titles. It’s called “How the Thrun Earned His Wings,” and it’s just a delight to write. I’ve been going entirely by hand, and I’m about four pages into the manuscript. Thus far it has just been a simple, slightly silly story about creation and the world Jiharel takes place in.

I suspect I shall be writing more stories like this.
